Science Ships in the Current Century

Due to the high demand for science ship builds, here is a brief overview of what is currently en vogue. One fair warning: only read on and recreate one of the builds if you want to invest hundreds of millions of energy credits, piles of Lobi and thousands of Zen.

Science ships are able to dish out incredible amounts of damage to groups, especially in elite queues.  Unlike cruisers or escorts their main sources of damage are:

  1. Bridge officer skills
  2. Clicky abilities from consoles
  3. Secondary deflector
  4. Weapons

There aren’t many options here – just go for maximum damage! This goes for every profession: Science, Engineering, Tactical.

The choices for spending points are as follows:

  • 2 points: Device Expertise
  • 4 points: Improved Aim
  • 6 points: take the one you prefer, you don’t melee often at all so it won’t matter that much
  • 8 points: Improved Flank Damage
  • 10 points: Offensive Mastery

A brief guide to getting the most out of Hangar Pets

Hangar pets are often overlooked being seen as a bonus launch and forget secondary or even tertiary damage source. On some ships and with the right combinations hangar pets can add a reasonable amount to your overall DPS. Pushed far enough it is possible to get over 100k DPS from pets alone, although that could be argued to be suboptimal as you will be sacrificing other better areas which overall would give you more DPS.

To get the most out of pets one of the first choices is the skill tree. There isn’t much to talk about here you will want

  • Coordination Protocols: +20% Hull Capacity and Shield Capacity for Hangar pets.
  • Defensive Coordination: +20% Defence and Damage Resistance Rating for Hangar pets.
