Upcoming Balance “Fun” changes from Cryptic

Hello everyone,

based on the tribble notes (including things not mentioned there), all builds are outdated and shouldn’t build right now. After testing around we will release some new builds for you in the future.

And after the nerd-rage yesterday in the channels, i can ensure you guys the dps community will figure out new methods to build dps ships, so do not flip out lol 🙂
    Different playground => different builds

    LLAP

its a bit more like back to the roots with zemok builds with double faw/csv and using eng/sci slots for universal consoles and tac consoles for spire locator
another possibility might be a2b builds again. And in addition, back to intel primary ^^

      • whicky1978  says:

Sometimes its about Fun Points per Second 😁. I’m pribabky the only one using a2b on a sci build already 😜

For the record cryptic can go fuck themselves. This is not about just nerfs, but a business model that sells powercreep only to kill it after a few years to start the cycle again. It’s a terrible way to run a business and a great way to antagonise your customers

I see it as sort of a combination deal. There’s definitely some changes that I see as being balance oriented, particularly tweaks to Engineering Captain’s abilities. It’s also arguable that the plasma science consoles and leech were a bit overpowered, although they are also some of the most accessible in the game so their nerfing arguable hurts middle range dpser’s more.

Just had a read through everything last night. There were some super heavy nerfs to some things, but some interesting changes in other areas. Im a little annoyed as I just got my last item to gold quality too, but alas. We will see how things turn out after this goes live 🙂

  • El Jefe  says:

What is the definition of “things not mentioned there”?

    • felisean  says:

Mostly patchnotes are not complete. As example the nerf to plasmonic leech was not mentioned in the Patchnotes.

  • weaselone  says:

Wow. That is a huge nerf to the plasma proc on the weapons Signature nullifier/amplifier. Not only did they reduce the damage to 25% of what it was, but the proc now applies per cycle instead of per shot.

    • felisean  says:

The Embassy Plasma consoles are pretty much completly useless now.

      • Nandos  says:

        Yeah.
They buffed them again with 21 march patch iirc, but they’re still not as good as before. It’s coming a paradigm shift in builds, like you said, a return to the past. Let’s see… 🙂

So what science consoles can we now use. For my sci I was thinking maybe the research lab ones with +EPG and +CTRLX together. For my TAC I have no idea, even less sure for my engie. There are so many consoles in the game it gives me a headache to even think about looking at them all.
What I do know is that you will probably have to scrap the recent changes to the levels needed for each channel invite.

    • obione69  says:

Does this also mean we will have extra skill points to spend? Do we still need points in drain and epg considering the hard cap on leech and death of feedback pulse and maybe even vortex.

      • felisean  says:

we will know a bit later, but right now i wouldnt say we should drop epg or drain, they are still useful for energy siphon, subspace vortex etc 🙂

  • DalkonCledwin  says:

I heard that the new space changes pretty much invalidated everything except for the Science builds, is this true? And would it be worth leveling a Science Captain, or are Tactical Captains still going to be kings of the playgrounds in terms of DPS thresholds?

And in regards to Science Captains, does the Romulan Operative Trait actually benefit Science Abilities?

    • Hellspawny  says:

I don’t see Sci captains closing the gap to the damage potential a Tac has. The Rom operative helps science skills that can crit.

      • whicky1978  says:

Right, Tacs will always lead in dps. I was wathcing DS9 and somebody said tacs move up the ranks faster 😆

        • Hellspawny  says:

It’s in the show, so it’s canon.
